The air is changing with the leaves, there’s Halloween candy everywhere you look, and my scarves and jackets have come out of their summer hiding places. October is officially here (!!!) and it’s the best month for capturing those autumn hues!

The textures, colors, and styles you wear will need to compliment the season for your images to really give off that autumn vibe.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite 2020 fashion tips and finds for the family! These pieces all represent current fashion trends while incorporating colors and/or textures that are best for fall photography sessions. By incorporating these guidelines, your fall family photos will be sure to raise the bar this year!
2020’s Best Fall Fashion for Family Photos
For the girls:
This chunky sweater is a fun take on plaid that is different than your typical flannel shirt, this corduroy skirt is a style that’s still big after being prevalent the past couple years, and this black jean jacket is a trendy take on a classic.
For the boys:
This maroon cardigan is classic piece with a modern feel, while these joggers have a more professional take on one of this year’s biggest male trends. Plus, this color block bomber provides great texture for fall photos while providing a light layer for chillier outdoor sessions and a great starting piece for a color palette.
For toddlers:
This cream sweater stays trendy with its long length while the color makes it chic and cozy. This thermal-knit maroon dress is perfect for tying together color palettes and giving lots of room to add accessories, plus the long sleeves are key for fall! It’s hard to go wrong with a classic flannel, especially with this year’s popular mustard color is incorporated in the print! A cozy striped sweater is a great printed piece to pair with siblings’ or parents’ plaid pieces. And this sherpa lined jean jacket is perfect for incorporating fall textures and current trends.
For the mamas:

Textures to keep in mind for fall sessions are leather, corduroy, sherpa, and the classic flannel. Incorporating 1-2 of these textures in various pieces, paired with sweaters and knits, will give some depth to your photos while complimenting the season and giving your photos a modern feel with current trends. Layering is also key to styling and adding dimension to your photos. Think of adding a layer to each person’s outfit, like a long knit sweater over a dress, a jean jacket over a plain sweatshirt, or a leather jacket over a chunky knit!
Cozy accessories are also key for fall sessions like scarves, wool socks, or beanies. Not only will these pieces stylize your outfit but they help keep you comfortable during your outdoor session.
