It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Kind of… In 2020 the most wonderful time might have been the first 60 days, but that doesn’t mean you should skip out on holiday photos this year! If anything, 2020 is a year you should DEFINITELY document to remember. I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but years down the line this time in your family’s life is going to be a memory to look back on! Plus, holiday cards send cheer to your loved ones you might not be able to see this season. And we ALL need all the cheer we can get.
So, now that we know we have family photos to prepare for, where do you begin? First off, reserve your date with Slowey Snaps Photography here before it’s too late to send those holiday cards! Next, let’s get to planning!
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite outfit tips for your 2020 holiday photos! These tips all represent current fashion trends while incorporating colors and/or textures that are best for winter photography sessions. By incorporating these guidelines your holiday photos will bring warmth to your loved ones and create a fun experience to look back on!
2020’s Best Winter Color Palettes for Holiday Photos
Snowball Fight:
This color palette is best used at a location with a dark and high contrast background, like a park full of green trees! You’ll want to pass on this palette if you plan to do your session in the snow or at the beach to avoid blending with the background. The best part of this color palette is that it isn’t reminiscent of Christmas specifically, so you’ll actually come away with cozy, winter themed photos perfect for displaying in your home even after the holidays are over!
Recommended styling for this palette includes: silver shimmer details, white fur layers, chunky cable knits, and cozy accessories like mittens, and pom winter hats.
Shop the silver sweater, scarf, men’s peacoat, girl’s coat, boy’s winter hat, and white fur jacket.
Christmas Picnic:
Go full fledged Christmas cheer with a classic tartan vibe! This is a great way to use Christmas colors without clashing or looking cheese-y.
Recommended styling for this palette includes: mixing two types of plaid for a fashion forward look! The best way to do this is choose two separate plaid pieces which have an overlapping color palette but are two different sizes and have different predominant colors. Here’s an example of how to style the family…
Shop the girl’s dress, men’s sweater, women’s shirt, women’s cardigan, boy’s sweater, and girl’s sweater dress.
Holiday Party:
Looking for a reason to get dressed up these days? This palette immediately gives your photos a high end feel. Plus, your holiday photos might be the only chance you have to get all dolled up this year!
Recommended styling for this palette includes: velvets, corduroy, gold foil prints, and tulle skirts.
Shop the women’s dress, girl’s jumpsuit, men’s sweater, boy’s blazer, girl’s skirt and boy’s pant.
Bonus Option!
2020 Mood: Pajama Party
So it’s not exactly a color palette, but the perfect trend to photograph in 2020! How many days this year have we all just… not gotten out of our pajamas? Matching PJs are cozy and festive and a #2020mood. Plus, super easy to get ready for your session!
Some brands currently selling matching sets for the full family include Old Navy, Target, Khol’s, and hannah Anderson.
Recommended styling for this includes: a hot cocoa themed session! Let’s cuddle up and capture some candids as your family has a fun photo session experience. It’s what we all need this season.
